HCAHPS Generic Press Release
Highlights March 2008 Public Release of Data
We recommend that on March 27th, HCAHPS-participating hospitals send a press release to their local media outlets regarding the national roll-out.  The text included in the press release will vary depending on how each hospital scores.

Below is a generic press release that may assist you in this announcement.

HCAHPS Survey Recommendations
PRC has several suggestions for you on how to conduct the HCAHPS surveys, depending on your organization’s situation and goals. The following recommendations are listed in an order that represents our recommendations for the majority of hospitals:
  1. Conduct both the PRC Patient Loyalty Study and the HCAHPS Survey separately, giving you the best opportunity to continue internal quality improvement efforts, as well as gather data for public reporting. PRC’s Patient Loyalty Study evaluates clinical and operational performance from the patients’ perspective on an ongoing basis, in addition to measuring patient loyalty. PRC will continue to provide your nursing units and departments with their individual Key Drivers of Excellence – those areas that are most important to enhancing patients’ perceptions of your organization. A separate HCAHPS survey would provide you with the information you need for public reporting purposes.

  2. Gather HCAHPS data and limited patient loyalty data at the same time with the new PRC HCAHPS Loyalty + Survey.  Let PRC provide you with customized direction and focus to improve your HCAHPS scores while continuing to build patient loyalty. This combined survey meets both needs through providing information for public reporting as well as data to continue your process improvement efforts.

  3. Gather HCAHPS survey data only. While the ideal situation for hospitals it to gather both patient loyalty data for internal quality improvement and HCAHPS data for public reporting, we realize that this is simply not possible for some organizations.  PRC will take care of the hassle and added burden of gathering your HCAHPS information by completing the required surveys in a timely fashion and transmitting the data to CMS on your behalf.
